the Active Contemplative . . . to the praise of God's glory
Our hope is that ‘the Active Contemplative’, Christos Center’s inspirational publication, will help us all to foster and nurture our love relationship with God and to realize God’s presence in the midst of our busy lives. We at Christos are people who are busy with jobs, families and other activities that are common to the average person. We also have a deep desire for solitude, silence and prayer where we can nurture our love relationship with God and where we can pay attention to who we are becoming as God transforms us day by day into the image of Christ. The Active Contemplative speaks about this active deepening process.
Excerpt from the Winter 2007-2008 Issue November 2007 Christos Pilgrimage to Spain and Italy: Traveling the road from Avila to Segovia...home of John of the Cross... Views of John's hermitage on the hill stirred my thoughts, drew my heart, and slowed me down as I approached the Convent of the Padres Carmelitas Descalzos. How many hours, days, weeks, did John sit in solitude in this hermitage on the hill? How many days of brilliant sunshine and deep blue sky did he sit in darkness...waiting...for his Beloved? In his great poems, John described my experience...made sense of me...even knew me at my deepest level. I longed to follow in his steps, to sit in his place, to join him in his solitude, to wait in the same darkness...to be united with my Beloved. I wept. Holy God, reveal your presence, and let the beauty of your presence be my death. ~Carl Nordgren
“May your roots go down deep into the soil of God’s marvelous love.” Eph 3:17
