Engaging the Body in Prayer

 In Chicago Events, Events

October 13-15, 2017

During certain seasons of sojourning with God, we find our prayer life gets stale and dry. Most of us are very familiar with prayers that are cerebral–words uttered but sometimes with little convictions & connections to our hearts. There are other times when we keep praying for the same issue over and over again till our words begin to fail us.

Are there some other ways that we can continue staying in prayer without being disconnected relationally with God? Is there a way prayer can be re-nourished in us and be revitalized? Join us at the beautiful and serene retreat grounds of GilChrist Retreat Center in Three Rivers, MI. In a silent-retreat format, we will seek to discover forms of prayer that engage our bodies & senses that connect us to God and express the desires of our hearts.

We will experience God with our breaths. We will use movements, gestures, postures, sounds/chants, sight, taste, touch and smell to explore ways to communicate our heart’s desires and commune with God in deeper & more intimate ways. We enter into grand silence on Friday evening and break silence on Sunday after our last session that morning. Except during our designated meeting times participants are asked to maintain silence throughout the retreat.

GilChrist Retreat Center, 56265 Day Road, Three Rivers, Michigan 49093 (269) 244-1130

Each attendee will stay in a personal one-room hermitage – an air-conditioned/heated cottage with a twin bed, sitting area and desk, modern bathroom, kitchen, fireplace and a porch or deck. Hermitages are located in private settings on the beautifully landscaped 67 acre retreat center property. Here is the link for you to see each of these hermitages on their website. http://fetzer.org/retreat-facilities/gilchrist/lodgefacilities Our gatherings will be held at the WindHill house on top of a small hill. There are only 8 hermitages on this retreat ground. So space is very limited.

Dinner Friday evening, brunch on Sunday, snacks and beverages are provided. Please let me know if you have any dietary restrictions. Simple instructions will be sent two weeks before the retreat in regards to what to bring for your meals on Sat. The preparation of & how we eat our meals are part of the retreat.
