Tending the Call: Caring for the Life of Spiritual Leaders & Directors

OCTOBER  19

Led by Jeannette Bakke and Leland Eliason

Tending to the souls of others is an important calling, especially in these present times. We invite you to gather in community with other Spiritual Directors and Formation Leaders to learn and discuss our calling to the world and what distracts us from this call, how can we experience meaningful community with those who understand and share our call, and how are our own soul can be nurtured.

Our time will be spent as a combination of large group gathering, small group exploration and individual reflection around our ministry. This is a day to be encouraged in your calling. We hope you will join us.

When: Monday, October 19th, 9-noon.

Jeannette A. Bakke, Ph.D., D. Min., Author of Holy Invitations: Exploring Spiritual Direction, Baker Books 2000, (Chinese translation 2005, Korean 2007) is a consultant in Spiritual Formation and Spiritual Direction, a retreat leader and spiritual director.   Jeannette is a retired professor from Bethel Seminary. She presently teaches at Christos Center for Spiritual Formation in their program to prepare Spiritual Directors. She has been part of a team, which developed and taught professional courses for all Navy, Marine and Coast Guard chaplains in the areas of Spiritual Direction and Spiritual Development.

Leland Eliason, TH.D. served at Bethel Seminary for 25 years–the last 15 years as Provost and Executive Director. At Bethel Seminary his vision was to integrate the teachings of the Center for Biblical and Theological Foundations, with those of the Center for Spiritual Formation and the Center of Transformational Leadership to ensure the equipping and the development of whole and holy persons.  In 2010 Leland became the founding Dean of the School of Ministry at Richmont Graduate School in Atlanta. There he designed the three centers approach into a Masters of Ministry Degree. Subsequently, a Certificate in Spiritual Direction was developed (Dr. Jeannette Bakke was part of the resource team for the design and implementation) and this became the core of a new Masters Degree in Spiritual Direction and Formation.
